What is a Chartered Accountant ?

A Chartered Accountant is a Professional holding authority to check the financial records of businesses. He is an expert in Accounting, Finance and Taxation. 

How much time it takes to become Chartered Accountant ?

After clearing CPT it takes 3 years to become a Chartered Accountant.

How to become Chartered Accountant ?

Step 1: Clear CPT
Step 2: Clear Intermediate Examination
Step 3: Do articleship for 2.5 years
Step 4: In the last six months of articleship, appear for Final Examination
Step 5: After clearing Final Examination, apply for membership of CA Institute. Once the membership is granted, you become a Chartered Accountant.

When to start CPT studies ?

As per rules, you can start CPT as late as 3 months before CPT exams. But, to get the best result and to become a successful Chartered Accountant, we recommend you to start CPT along with your XI studies.

What to do after CPT ?

After clearing CPT, you can either join Chartered Accountancy (CA) course or join Company Secretary (CS) Course. If you decide to join CA course, then the next step is Intermediate Examination. This examination is conducted twice in a year, May & November. On the other hand, if you decide to join CS course, then the next step is Executive Examination. This examination is conducted twice in a year, June & December.

What are the subjects of Intermediate Course?

The subjects of Intermediate Course are divided into two groups as follows;
Group I
  1. Financial Accountancy
  2. Law, Ethics & Business Communication
  3. Cost Accounts & Financial Management
  4. Income Tax, Service Tax & Value Added Tax
Group II
  1. Financial Accountancy
  2. Auditing
  3. Information Technology & Strategic Management

What to do after Intermediate Course ?

Now you are eligible to register for articleship. You are also eligible to register for CA Final. Remember, you can appear for CA Final examination only when the last six months of articleship are remaining and thereafter. This examination is also conducted twice in a year, May & November.

What are the subjects of CA Final ?

The subjects of CA Final are divided into two groups as follows;
Group I
  1.  Financial Reporting
  2. Strategic Financial Management
  3. Advanced Auditing and Professional Ethics
  4. Corporate and Allied Laws 
Group II
  1. Advanced Management Accounting
  2. Information Systems Control and Audit
  3. Direct Tax Laws
  4. Indirect Tax Laws

What after CA Final

Now you should take the membership of CA Institute. If you want you can join industry and get employed or you can take a Certificate of Practice and start your own practice as a Chartered Accountant.

What is IT Training ?

This is a compulsory course in Information Technology to be done by every student of Intermediate Course, before joining articleship. This course is of 100 hours, to be done from any accredited branch of Ca Institute.

What is GMCS ?

General Management and Communication Skills (GMCS) is a programme of 30 days divided in two parts,
  1. During 1st year of articleship: GMCS I (15 days)
  2. After completing 18 months & before completing articleship: GMCS II (15 days)

What is Articleship ?

This is the practical training of CA work. It is for  a period of 2.5 years. It can be done with any Chartered Accountant of your choice.
